Lobster watercolour illustration, A3 landscape on a plain white background. Line work and some texture details were first laid down in orange and turquoise tones of coloured pencil. A general dark orange wash of watercolour was then added, softening and blurring the initial lines. While still wet, additional watercolour spots were dropped into shadow areas and to add texture. The interaction of the granulating paint, the roughness of the paper and the underlying pencil work creates an interesting depth of pattern and texture as well as defining the form. The final step was redefinition of line work in coloured ink.
